Keeping Your Skin Healthy

The sun is (nearly) always shining in Cayman, so it’s important that we take care of our skin.
So we’ve found 4 ways to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy!

Yes, what we eat effects our skin. Here are a few skin-healthy foods that you can increase your intake of.
Mangoes – lucky for us these are easy to find and delicious, they contain compounds with antioxidant properties.
Walnuts – rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are great at reducing inflammation in your body, including your skin.
Avocados – high in healthy fats and contain vitamins E and C which are important for healthy skin.

Well, this may seem obvious, but choosing the correct sunscreen and applying it the correct way, is key!

Sun Protection Factor (SPF) – at an absolute minimum you’ll want SPF 30. No sunscreen is 100% effective at preventing burning or skin damage, but the higher the SPF the better protected you’ll be. SPF 50 blocks 98% of rays from reaching your skin, when used as directed.

Looking to save more than your skin? Purchase reef safe sunscreen to ensure we keep the beautiful marine life around Cayman healthy too!

Collagen is the most common form of protein in the body. As you age you produce less collagen, which can cause signs of aging.

How do you boost your collagen? You can eat foods rich in amino acids, like beans, root vegetables, and soy. You can also add foods that are high in vitamin C, like citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables and strawberries.
Another option you have are collagen supplements, in the form of pills, tablets or powders. Powders can be added to drinks and can come either unflavored or in a variety of flavors.

Well, this is easy! Drink lots of water. Your skin is made up of 30% water, so by increasing your intake of water you’re increasing hydration in the skin. This will help better protect your skin, especially if you sweat a lot, as this is moisture escaping the skin.
How much should you drink? Some experts say at least 8 glasses a day, but you may need to modify this due to exercise, environment and other health factors.

As you can see, keeping your skin healthy is pretty simple! You probably already follow most of these points already, but ensuring you keep up with good practices will help ensure your skin looks good and remains healthy for years to come.

Please note, we’re not experts, and we suggest you consult your physician before starting or changing any diet.
